Trill Project

Role: Design Intern (UI/UX Design, Web Design, User Research)
Timeline: 4 months (February 2021 - May 2021)
Tools: Figma, Webflow

🎨  As a Design "Trilltern," I created wireframes and prototypes of proposed in-app features for Trill using Figma and created forms and email drafts to gauge interest in beta testing of our app. During my internship, I was also a member of the Website Redesign Committee and the Beta Testers Committee, and led design for a Trill initiative.

💻  Website Redesign Committee

As a part of the Website Redesign Committee, I was in charge of revamping the About and Team pages of our website on Webflow.

I first began looking at the about and team pages on the original website and wrote down areas of improvement that I saw in a notes doc. Some of my first observations were that the about page felt repetitive and the team page was long and outdated as well, containing the older intern class.

The about page in the previous iteration of Trill's website - it repeated info already on the landing page and had no background on Trill and its founding.

After my initial look at the old website, I began sketching out low-fidelity wireframes of what I envisioned the pages to look like, adding notes and questions in the margins. We then gathered as a committee and I shared my ideas with my team and iterated on them further in my medium-fidelity wireframes.

Once we had the website up on Webflow, I began implementing my designs. Due to constraints on Webflow, I had to alter my designs accordingly. I used the CMS tools in Webflow to organize each section and to make it more efficient when putting the information in for each Trill team member. I also took initiative and met with one of the founders 1:1 to discuss how she envisioned the about page to be and to gather more information about Trill's mission and story.

💭 Challenges

We were instructed to go through a "Webflow 101" course through Webflow that gave us more information on the various aspects of Webflow and web development as a whole. Although I completed the course, it was sometimes difficult to get Webflow to cooperate with how I envisioned my pages, since there were so many options in the editor. I took to watching YouTube videos if I couldn't figure out what to do, or troubleshooted with my other team members.

One challenge was implementing the pictures into the team page, as it was difficult to figure out a way to efficiently put all of the pictures into everyone's profiles. I decided to put all of the pictures in manually, thinking that was the easiest way to do it. However, Ayana, one of my interns also on my committee told me about a Zapier, a CMS management tool, and how it would make the entire process more efficient, especially once the new intern class comes in. If I had more time, I would want to implement Zapier into the team page so that future interns can smoothly update the website.

Our final team meeting! Missing everyone already :(
